407 Proxy Authentication Required

What is HTTP 407?

This status code is similar to 401 but indicates that the client must authenticate with an intermediary proxy before the request can proceed to the origin server. The proxy must include a Proxy-Authenticate header indicating the authentication scheme required. The client should then retry the request with a Proxy-Authorization header containing valid credentials for the proxy.

Common Causes

• A corporate or organizational proxy requires authentication before allowing internet access
• A forward proxy server is configured to require credentials for all outbound requests
• Network security policies requiring user identification at the proxy level

How to Fix

• Provide proxy credentials via the Proxy-Authorization header in your requests
• Configure your HTTP client or browser with the proxy username and password
• Contact your network administrator for the correct proxy authentication credentials
