What is HTTP 208?

This WebDAV status code is used inside a multi-status response to indicate that a resource has already been enumerated in a previous part of the same response and is not being included again. It prevents infinite loops in responses that traverse directory structures with internal bindings or references that could create cycles. The client should refer to the earlier part of the response for the details of this resource.

Defined in RFC 5842

Common Causes

• A WebDAV PROPFIND on a collection that contains internal member bindings creating circular references
• Recursive directory listings where a resource appears in multiple locations
• DAV binding extensions where the same resource is bound at multiple URIs

How to Fix

• No fix needed; the server is correctly avoiding duplicate entries in the response
• Look earlier in the multi-status response for the full details of this resource
• If circular references are unintended, review the WebDAV bindings on the server
